Professor Julian Agyeman Receives Honorary Doctorate from KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Julian Agyeman, Professor of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning, and Fletcher Professor of Rhetoric and Debate was recently awarded an honorary doctorate by KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. The KTH Royal Institute wrote the following.

“Professor Agyeman is recognized as a public intellectual, innovator and thought leader. He is one of the leading world academics and one of the most cited urban scholars today. He is the originator of the increasingly influential concept of Just Sustainabilities-, which explores the intersecting goals of social justice and environmental sustainability, defined as the need to ensure a better quality of life for all, now and into the future, in a just and equitable manner, while living within the limits of supporting ecosystems.

His contributions to justice issues and ethnic desegregation, and racial equity through urbanism, planning, and environmental studies are, according to the Honorary Doctor’s appointment, unrivalled in academia. He has held numerous visiting professorships at several universities around the world.

Professor Agyeman’s contribution to research and education at the KTH School of Architecture and the Built Environment has been significant since the collaboration began in 2004. He has contributed to the school’s scientific and educational development as an advisor, mentor and doctoral thesis opponent. His contributions to major research projects at KTH will continue in the foreseeable future.”
